Consolacion is a Hong Kong-based, Filipino flight attendant of Hiroshi Airlines (HA), a Japanese airline licensed to do business in the Philippines. She was dismissed from employment as she was accused of stealing wine bottles and cheese from the Melbourne-bound aircraft of HA. Consolacion then instituted a complaint for illegal dismissal and money claims against HA with the Labor Arbiter (LA). In its defense, HA asserted that the LA had no jurisdiction to hear the dispute as the incident occurred in a foreign jurisdiction and involved a foreign entity.
